Valgykla Montuotojas is a classic valgykla — a self-service canteen — on Naugarduko gatvė in the Naujamiestis (New Town) part of central Vilnius, a short walk south-west of the Old Town. It is unapologetically no-frills and proudly dated, a nostalgic trip back to the late-Soviet era that locals remember and curious visitors come to experience. The decor is part of the appeal rather than an oversight.
What keeps people coming back is the food and the value: huge portions of tasty, homemade-style Lithuanian comfort food at prices that are hard to believe, with an excellent price-to-quality ratio.
