A 1901 grande dame beside the Town Hall
The Astorija has been hosting travellers since 1901, and it still carries itself like the city's original grand hotel: high ceilings, elegant public rooms and a doorstep position next to the Town Hall on Didžioji gatvė. A full-scale renovation completed in May 2025 refreshed all 119 rooms and the dining spaces, so the historic shell now comes with genuinely current interiors — plus the stylish Astorija Aperitivo Bar for a signature cocktail before dinner.
Service is the other pillar. Staff earn consistent praise for warmth and attentiveness, down to packing complimentary breakfast bags for guests with dawn departures. The breakfast proper — a generous buffet with local specialities, eaten on the bright veranda — is one of the best-reviewed in the Old Town.
Good to know
The wellness floor — indoor pool, hot tub, saunas and steam bath — is a real asset in a city where hotel spas are rare, and everything you'd want to see on foot is minutes away. Rooms are well kitted out, with Nespresso machines and strong monsoon showers as standard.
Be aware that the hotel occupies two connected buildings, the 1901 original and an annex, so room shapes and sizes vary considerably — some are charmingly quirky, others just oddly laid out. The square outside is lively, and street noise can reach the rooms on weekend nights even higher up. There's no on-site parking, and a few guests report small housekeeping lapses and walk-in showers that splash the bathroom floor.
