Neapolitan pizza in a Bernardinų courtyard
Flying Tomato began in 2023 as a pizza van parked in the Bernardinų courtyard, just off Pilies gatvė in the heart of the Old Town, and quickly built a reputation many locals sum up as the best pizza in Vilnius. The format is part of the charm: a food truck and a cluster of courtyard tables, with pizzas baked in a wood-fired Gozney Dome oven and built on ingredients sourced from Italy and local farms. The menu runs from classics like Margherita and Marinara to more elaborate combinations such as Truffle Mortadella, with Italian pasta, gnocchi and homemade desserts rounding it out.
The atmosphere is cozy and lively, the staff are singled out as exceptionally friendly, and the spot is pet-friendly, so four-legged companions are welcome. Ordering and payment run through a convenient QR-code system. It is popular enough to draw crowds, and some diners find the pasta portions small for the price, but the pizza is the reason to come — and it rarely disappoints.
Good to know
Flying Tomato is an Old Town courtyard spot, so seating is mostly outdoors and it is busiest in good weather; the concept has since expanded with additional locations, but the Pilies gatvė courtyard is the original. Treat hours as a guide and check the venue's own channels before a special trip.
